March 28, 2007 - 9:05pm Yahoo! Mail Unleashed

With the upcoming 10th anniversary of Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! announced yesterday that they will begin offering unlimited email storage to everyone, starting with May 2007.

“When Yahoo! Mail launched 10 years ago, users got a whopping 4MB of storage for their entire mailbox. Today, you would fill that up with a single picture from your weekend. […]
[…] We’re psyched to be breaking new ground in the digital storage frontier by giving our users the freedom to never worry about deleting old messages again. And, like any responsible webmail service, we have anti-abuse limits in place to protect our users”, said John Kremer, vice-president of Yahoo! Mail.

According to John Kremer, the changes will be rolled out over a few months in order to facilitate a smooth transition.
I am wondering how will Google and Microsoft react to this announcement.

June 21, 2006 - 2:46pm Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Desktop ...

I recently downloaded and run the Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Desktop Live CD and I must say I was quite impressed with what I saw. With his "out of the box" clean and well organized interface I think this is the most user-friendly Linux distribution I have ever seen until now.
There are no unnecessary desktop shortcuts, no unnecessary menu items and no unnecessary installed application. The standard Ubuntu installation contains a selection of useful applications more that enough for a desktop user to get started.

Such installed applications are:

  • OpenOffice 2.0 for word processing, spreadsheets and presentations
  • Mozilla Firefox for web browsing
  • Gimp for image editing
  • Evolution for email and calendaring
  • Audio and Video tools

With this release I think Ununtu is heading in the right direction to gain more consideration among desktop users.

Way to go Ubuntu!
